That's the story behind D&D Fitness and Tanning, Carlinville's hometown gym for a decade and counting.
Located at 25 Carlinville Plaza, D&D operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No intimidation. No judgment. Just a clean, well-equipped space where people can come in, do the work, and feel good about it.
They put it simply themselves: "It's a friendly, no-nonsense 24/7 hometown gym where everyone feels welcome."
The facility offers:

Group fitness classes
Sauna
Tanning
Infrared light therapy
Independent personal trainers
But the list of services only tells part of the story.
The people behind D & D are not just gym owners. Collectively, their staff holds degrees in Physical Education, Health, Nursing, and Sports Psychology, alongside Personal Training and Nutrition Counseling certifications.
These are people who genuinely know their stuff. And they use that knowledge to meet members where they are.
Whether someone is a competitive powerlifter, a retiree in Silver Sneakers, or a person fresh out of physical therapy trying to rebuild strength and routine, D&D has a place for them.
Their mission reflects this clearly.

Like any business owner, they had to earn it.
When they moved into their current space in 2016, they were first-time small business owners working to bring a vision to life. That process, learning by doing, figuring it out, building something from the ground up, shaped who they are as a business today.
Ten years later, they're serving more than 500 members.
A typical day involves hundreds of customer interactions and, as they'd be the first to admit, no shortage of cleaning.
That's the reality of running a facility people rely on every single day.
D&D's commitment to this community goes well beyond the four walls of the gym.
They've sponsored powerlifting competitions to raise money for first responders and Wounded Warriors. They've collected thousands of toys for children and families in need. They've opened their doors to the Carlinville Cavalette Dance Team when they needed space to practice. They volunteer time to teach fitness classes in local schools.
Year after year, without fanfare.
When asked about a proud moment, they didn't talk about member numbers or equipment upgrades - They talked about watching local athletes train there and go on to succeed in their sport, people who gained confidence, healed from illness, and felt a sense of belonging.
Looking ahead, D&D is excited about new equipment, new services, and continuing to serve more residents across Carlinville and the surrounding area.
