Storm causes damage in Staunton
By Jim Zuber
Friday morning’s storm caused damage in the Staunton area. According to
information from Macoupin County Emergency Services Director Jim
Pitchford, wind caused a sign to blow off the Dairy Queen restaurant
near Interstate 55.
Additionally, Friday morning’s high winds caused power outages, tore
shingles from roofs and scattered tree limbs throughout the Staunton
area. Staunton Police Chief Bob Mertz ordered the storm warning siren
sounded at 9:11 a.m.
Power company personnel worked throughout the day to restore power
lines. Classes in the local schools remained in session as normal.
